As the Dalai Lama said, “We need an education of the heart.”
This journey has taken me a lifetime. My love of animals and passion for art, along with my love of teaching, has created this body of work. My goal is to have a traveling art show that would go from school to school, teaching compassion for all living things through art. I want to encourage children to be creative and empower them to make a difference in this world.

These papier-mâché masks were made for pure enjoyment. I wanted to see if I could create a pattern and make what was in my mind. I succeeded and had a lot of fun doing it. The photographs were taken with my friend in Golden Gate Park (Gorilla) and Ocean Beach (Elephant). We got some stares but it was a lot of fun. Elephants and Gorillas are on the endangered species list, meaning there are fewer and fewer of them on this Earth. We need to protect and preserve their habitat. We can do this by raising money to help these organizations thrive and we can do this by educating ourselves and teaching others. Knowledge is power.

A cat named Toby missed his former owners so much that he walked 12 miles to be with them again. Unfortunately, the North Carolina family didn’t repay Toby’s amazing loyalty and tried to have a local shelter euthanize him. The good people of the SPCA wouldn’t hear of it and now he lives in comfort with his new family who adore him. His mom even had a portrait painted of her and Toby as her birthday gift to herself. She hangs it proudly above the mantel. Pets are family and should be treated as so.

Up to 80 percent of ocean plastic pollution enters the ocean from land. At least 267 different species have been affected by this plastic pollution. 100,000 marine animals are killed by plastic bags annually. Aquatic animals and fish mistakenly eat the plastic bags thinking they are a food source. The solution is to recycle the plastic we have and avoid single-use plastic bags.

Mother nature is puzzled why people keep dumping their plastic bags, bottles and garbage into Earth’s oceans. She doesn’t understand why people would allow this to happen. She has hope for the future by teaching the future generations to recycle and never throw any chemicals down the sewers. Also, consider joining a beach clean up group. How about next Saturday? Over 1.5 million shelter animals are euthanized in the US each year. We are lucky to live in a no-kill city, like San Francisco. The city accomplishes this through fostering, mobile adoptions, behavior and training programs, pediatric spay/neuter clinics, landlord/tenant assistance, and feral fix programs. A city of people helping animals is how this happens and that is why volunteering is so important. Some great shelters to volunteer in San Francisco are: Family Dog Rescue, SFSPCA, Muttville, and Rocket Dog Rescue.

Dogs not only make amazing friends and companions, they also help humans in many ways. Some of the ways they help humans are for search and rescue, therapy to help calm and make people feel secure and happy, and some are trained to be guide dogs for the seeing impaired and blind. There is a place in San Rafael that trains dogs if you want to check them out to see all that they are doing. www.guidedogs.com

Growing up, my dog was my best friend. He was a rescue dog named Sammy and he was loyal and sweet. Having a pet takes responsibility. You must always make sure they have fresh water, food, walks, playtime, health checks, and lots of love. There are so many dogs and cats waiting for their forever home at your local shelters. If you cannot get one right now you can always go to a shelter and play with one. They need love too! Family Dog Rescue is one of the shelters that lets children under 18 years of age play with and socialize their dogs. www.ilovefamilydog.org/volunteer

Nova and Vega have learned quickly: It is the humans that make the decisions and laws, and this is why they are making themselves known to us. They are now dedicating themselves to traveling around our planet in hopes of educating us to the things they have witnessed and how we can make small changes that will have a huge impact. They come to us with love and compassion and believe that teaching the human children is how change will be cultivated and grow.

Turn your passion into a way to raise money for needed supplies for animals. Love baking? Make some homemade dog biscuits and sell them. Love organizing? Start a dog and cat food drive for shelters. Love making necklaces? Make necklaces and sell them to friends to raise money for an elephant sanctuary. Heaven on Earth can be made with the help of people like yourself. Start dreaming

Animals’ homes and well-being are compromised and diminished daily by pollution, deforestation, and overpopulation. We, as a society, need to protect the animals on this Earth by recycling, neutering and spaying, protecting wildlife sanctuaries, and donating time and money to organizations that are doing great things: Green Peace, One Green Planet, The Elephant Sanctuary, SPCA, Family Dog Rescue, Rocket Dog Rescue, Best Friends Sanctuary, to name a few.

Holly Peppermint had lived in a tiny cage her entire life, until one day she was rescued by Furry Nation Salvation. The rescue group found her the perfect home before even putting her up for adoption. She now has a loving family, a 10-year-old cat sibling, and all the space she needs to run, play and just be herself. She is finally free to take flight.

We all need more love.
Be kinder to others.
Thank you for coming to my first solo art show about Animal Compassion.
Now spread the love.

These watercolor portraits of women address major issues we are currently facing. Organic fruits and veggies have no pesticides that hurt bees, products with a rabbit icon on them show they were never tested on animals, line-caught fish means no endangered sea creatures were harmed by the use of nets and bring your own bag when shopping instead of plastic bags. Small choices, when done over and over, become big changes.

This collection of work is for an in-progress children’s book. My book will highlight kids who do amazing things for our environment and animals around the world. I hope it will show kids that they too can help make positive change in this world.
